ITAP WEEK 4 : Inspiration & Understanding

Principle 4

Many artists are inspired in some way or form. Inspiration can come from anywhere, such as: looking at others work or just simply viewing the open world. These inspirations tend to be written down or drawn within a diary / journal. One Artist who uses the idea of writing and drawing things in a journal is : Marion Deuchars.

As you can see from the image above, she likes to write down notes, her opinions and possibly even quotes. This style of recording down inspirations can help in the long run as drawings, photos and notes that are not relevant might inspire you within the future.

This is the same style I am working in at the moment, as I have a RVJ (Reflective Visual Journal) that contains notes, illustrations, photographs, ideas and inspirations that I have come across during the start of my assignment. Everything within my journal leads up to the stage I am working on now and shows how I got to that stage.

Without a journal I would not be able to record everything I see or hear, making it harder to progress, as I would have nothing to look back on and get
 Inspiration from.

Principle 5

When looking to design or create, there is always a pacific target audience, which it is aimed at. This can range from kids, teens, adults, elderly and even gender. All this must be considered in the process of design / creation, as it has to fit the target audience.

To connect with the target audience, it has to be suitable and to obtain that, you have do research into the chosen audience, such as looking at what are they interested in, and what they like and dislike. From doing research you are than able to choose appropriate colour pallets, images, fonts and text, which all helps connect to the set target audience.

In the image above you can see straight away that the magazine has a clear target audience and that is young children. This is given straight away, as the magazine contains the logo of  “CBeebies” which is the name of a famous kids channel. You can also see that the magazine has used bright colours; this could be to attract the target audience. The main way the magazine has connected with its targeted audience is by adding familiar TV characters to the front of the magazine, which would mostly likely be known only by the set audience.

This magazine designer has achieved its goals of reaching the set target audience by doing research,
making his work a lot easier and successful.
